I was dating this girl for 4 years and we recently broke up. We have a lot of common friends. It was a very though break-up and I really don't want to hurt her any more. When is it a good time to announce that our relationship is over (cancel our relationship status) in facebook/myspace? I know she will get sad if she sees that the relationship was cancelled. how much time should I wait?

Here's a thought: common friends or not, do you really need to "cancel your relationship status"? Does everyone really need to know the intimate details of your personal life to that extent? It's not like you're announcing your engagement or cancelling your NAMBLA membership. If you really don't want to hurt your ex-girlfriend, then it just wouldn't be appropriate to put something like that online.
